Labor Day Weekend MTB Extravaganza

Well to most Labor Day weekend means one extra day of not working, and Liz inevitably knows what that means to me. Getting in some long, epic day on the MTB. CTS fellow workers Ryan Kohler, Adam Pulford, Cameron Chambers, friend Dan, and myself departed at 9am on Saturday for an excursion. The target was Rampart Reservoir. We started at Balanced Rock in Garden of the Gods. We then climbed up Rampart Range Road for about 2 hours and 4000+ feet of climbing. This brought us to Rampart Reservoir, which is a beautiful body of water that sits up at about 9300 feet in elevation. We then did a loop on the great singletrack around the reservoir which consists of about 13 miles. After that we headed back down Rampart Range Road and about halfway down we dropped into Willimans Canyon. That trail is loose, steep, technical and a heck of a lot of fun. Not as much fun as it could have been as I broke my rear derailleur cable halfway down and had to ride the rest of the way with one gear. Which unlike Cameron Chambers who rode a Single Speed MTB all day mine was not by choice. Needless to say it made for a long tough ride home. All said and done we rode just over 60 miles, 6+ hours, with 6500 feet of climbing and 3200kJ's burned. What a great way to start Labor Day weekend.
